Pretty Blue Pill

Victims

Have you ever noticed that every part of the liberal agenda starts with a victim?

And why not? Getting the emotions stirred is probably the most sure-fire way to prevent good thinking. That’s why we conservatives seem so heartless to the typical liberal. When they’re outraged, we’re asking questions. And while they’re boo-hooing, we’re constructing logical arguments.

Now, I use the term victim loosely because typically a victim is someone who has been taken advantage of in some way by another person. We don’t usually use the term to refer to people who have been taken advantage of by themselves.

Maybe you can see where this is headed, but I caution you, don’t get me wrong. I’m not at all suggesting that everyone in America who is down on their luck is there because they’ve been stupid. But I am suggesting that it happens much more than you think.

I first became a conservative voter (I had always been a social conservative) by listening to my wife talk about her job. She worked as a social worker in Atlanta and in New Orleans when we moved there, and then in Atlanta again when we moved back after Katrina.

Most of her clients, personality-wise, were awesome people. I even had a chance to meet a few of them. But the single biggest problem she had dealing with them was the fact that none of them (and I mean none of them) made wise financial decisions.

They were trapped in a culture where it was acceptable to buy your kids $100 shoes, but depend on the government to get them food. Or they’d spend over $150 a month on cable television, but continually used the excuse that they couldn’t find a job because they didn’t own reliable transportation (and taking the bus is just so expensive, you know).

Naturally, after continually hearing this (and seeing it too), and then observing how my own family was scraping by while I was in school—my wife working full time in the midst of the most dangerous cities in the country, I worked five odd jobs while I was a full time student, working toward my Masters degree, and our daughter spent nine hours a day in daycare while my wife and I worked to pursue our dreams—I soon got over the bleeding heart liberal syndrome.

And the problem I have with liberal ideologues is that they encourage these people to see themselves as victims. They’re not at all interested in helping these people get out of the cycle of bad decisions while hard working tax payers foot the bill. Fixing the problem doesn’t give them a political advantage.

Which brings me to the point of this post: who’s really the victim in America today? Is it really the lazy welfare recipient sitting on the sofa watching Jerry Springer every day? Believe it or not, I’d say yes. Yes it is. Though not in the way liberals would say. They are actually the victims of a system that empowers them to live like this.

But we are also victims. Working class Americans who are making wise financial decisions, only to see their hard-earned money taken from them to expand the government and given to people who aren’t even trying to help themselves. That is very frustrating to say the least.

And who’s doing the victimizing? Well, I’ll leave that for you to figure out…

Obama’s poll numbers

Hey guys, I think I finally figured out why Obama’s personal poll numbers are relatively high (though they’re descending all the time), yet the numbers for his policies are atrocious.

OK, here’s my theory, the Dems, along with help from their Hollywood buds have done a number on America in creating the perception that any criticism of Obama is the result of racist thinking. This effectively places Obama above reproach, which is the most un-American thing you can do in politics.

Now, never mind the fact that I’m blacker than Obama, and I think his policies stink. So I must be racist against myself, I suppose. Thanks Janeane!

Never mind the fact that conservatives were protesting the Dems’ tax and spend tactics LONG before any of us had even heard the name Barack Hussein Obama.

At any rate, most Americans have unfortunately bought into the lie. So although a majority of Americans will soundly reject Obama’s socialist policies, they are afraid to tie those feelings to him for fear of having some Hollywood socialist show up and label them a racist too.

Gotta love that liberal rationale. Don’t focus on the issues, just call names. Wow! Just when I was starting to miss the third grade.
